Annabelle’s Interior Designer, Alice Alexander and the Traditional French Country Design in Tarpon Springs, Florida
When Alice was approached to furnish the sprawling 7,500 square foot home of a professional athlete living 45 minutes outside of Tampa, Florida several months each year, she knew the project was about much more than great interior design; it was about creating a home away from home for this young family. The client’s love of French Country design set the pace for the project. From there, Alice took her interior design influence from the lavender fields and bright sunshine of the French countryside to deliver an elegant, inviting space. Sunny yellow and vibrant green, fiery red and burnt orange are carried throughout the home in luxurious fabrics in a carefully planned mix of solids, stripes and florals.
Entering the home, you are greeted with a Francesco Molon walnut sideboard in the front foyer, a statement piece that sets the tone for the home’s luxurious interior design. The foyer spills into a beautiful, spacious living room. Alice found a beautiful silk, hand-knotted oriental rug with an elegant pattern to complement the silk, single-bench cushion sofa with pleated skirt from Swaim Upholstery. Matching silk draperies and intricately carved accent pieces infuse a Traditional influence without weighing down the space.
The dining room features a custom, handmade granite-top dining table, which is paired with three-seat benches and chairs that add Old World influence with barley corn twist stretchers from Old Hickory Tannery and fabrics from Old World Weavers. The room comfortably seats ten adults for a dining experience as exquisite as the setting.
In the spacious master bedroom, a curved Stanford sofa matches the contour of the wall to perfection, while Habersham’s hand-embellished nightstands add just the right complement to the room. The daughter’s bedroom features whimsical furnishings in soft lavender and muted green that deliver a serene space fit for a princess. The custom corona bed showcases a flattering bed crown, providing a playful sleep space for any young dreamer. A Chelsea House chest was brought into the room to hold prize possesses – most notably, a favorite doll and blanket – that can be tucked neatly away when not in use.
Guests are treated like royalty as well, beginning with a Henkel Harris king size poster bed fit for, well… a king. Eastern Accents silk bedding drapes the bed and adds to the breathtaking interior design of the room. Two Henkel Harris bachelor’s chests with matching mirrors and a Fairfield bench garnish each side of the bed beautifully. A comfortable Stanford sofa and cloverleaf ottoman fit nicely in the guest bedroom and infuse a touch of traditional design into this French Country home.
Throughout the interior design project, Alice exceeded the client’s expectations, delivering a cohesive French Country style, with furniture that transformed the space from a house into a home that would welcome the young couple each spring.
Annabelle’s Interior Designer, Alice Alexander and going from 50’s Kitsch to a Modern Stunner
There are times when a single piece of furniture provides the inspiration for a whole-house interior design. That was the case when a client approached Alice to take her newly purchased villa from dated mid-century Florida kitsch to modern-day transitional stunner. The design process began on the Annabelle’s showroom floor, where the client set her sights on a blue and white sofa by Stanford. After taking the time to truly understand her client’s style preferences, Alice knew she would be willing to push the design envelope.
With this in mind, Alice continued the blue and white palette, layering in bits of intrigue along the way – blue and white leopard print accent pillows on the sofa and a pair of Stanford chairs in a blue and white zebra print for a start. Koi fish artwork brought in a pop of orange, the perfect complement to the existing color scheme and unique way to usher in an Asian influence.
Moving on from the main living area, Alice wanted each room to have a distinct sense of style while ensuring the design flowed seamlessly from room to room. The key was finding unique ways to introduce the signature design elements in each space.
In the kitchen, the dinette introduces a coastal feel, navy and white Koi print window treatments carry over the Asian influence and an orange chandelier makes a statement while providing that much-needed pop of color. The master bedroom offers a peaceful respite in more muted tones of gray and beige, but the pop of orange finds its presence in an eye-catching accent wall in the master bath while chinoiserie bedding adds an Asian flair.
With the client dividing her time between the Tampa, Florida and the Midwest, the project continues to be a work in progress, but she is thrilled with the home’s transformation thus far. Working closely with her client to thoughtfully select each element introduced to the space, Alice was able to rid the home of its dated décor and deliver a refreshing transitional home that is a true reflection of her client’s unique sense of style.
Alice Alexander has been has been selected as the President-Elect for the local chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.
