Annabelle’s Interior Designer, Trudy Waterworth and the Lakefront home in Odessa, Florida
The owner of a sprawling lakefront property just outside of Tampa, Florida approached Annabelle’s interior designer, Trudy Waterworth, to update the interior of his new home. He was looking for a complete redesign of the outdated home and desired a lighter, fresher, more modern design to replace the heavy, dark tones that filled the space.
With an understanding of the owner’s style preferences, Trudy went right to work on the interior design to create a transitional look beginning with flooring and wall recommendations. The hard-wood floors were stripped and re-stained in driftwood tones of gray and light brown. Walls were repainted in lighter, neutral colors, creating a fresh, open design and paving the way for the new style of the home featuring more modern furniture.
To the left of the main entrance, immediately visible from the front foyer is the home’s formal dining room. A dazzling, Fine Art Chandelier with contemporary crystal immediately captures your attention as you scan the great space. The chandelier hangs over a smooth Hickory White dining table made of maple and walnut veneers with a light finish. A set of neutral-toned Hickory White upholstered arm chairs surrounds the table and keeps with the overall tone of the interior design. A tall Hickory White curio cabinet fills the area behind the dining room table and a custom area rug from Jaunty masterfully ties the entire setting together.
A formal living room shares the same open space as the dining room and features complementary neutral tones, creating a natural flow from one space to the next. Four tufted, cream-colored swivel chairs by THE M.T. Company anchor the room. Their beautiful light wood finish complements the lighter color flooring in this well-designed space. The grand room’s wall showcases a large custom mirror from Old Biscayne Design, expanding the already large space. A square Hancock & Moore ottoman positioned in the center of the seating area ties the room’s interior design together perfectly much to the delight of the homeowner.
Off the formal living room in this grand space is the homeowner’s personal office space featuring custom, handmade office furniture from Old Biscayne Design. The large multi-unit furniture has a light wood finish and an ‘L’ shape that offers plenty of work and shelf space. The unit’s tall cabinets allow files to be neatly tucked away, while the shelving provides ample room to hold eye-catching accessories from John Richard and Classic Florals. A beautiful taupe-colored leather office chair by Fairfield stays true to the overall transitional design of the grand floor plan.
Not to be outdone by the great room, the grand master bedroom shares a similar transitional design with the rest of the home. A king size Vanguard bed featuring tufted headboard in stunning pearl leather provides the center piece for the bedroom. Matching Hickory White night stands rest on either side of the king bed – each with a classic, modern style made with reeded panels and a slate hardware finish. A large 74-inch dresser with a complementary finish holds the homeowner’s large wide-screen television and a tall, two-door wardrobe with adjustable shelving provides additional storage for the homeowner.
With the home’s transformation complete, the happy homeowner is able to dine, entertain, work and rest in this fresh, clean transitional interior design.
Annabelle’s Interior Designer, Trudy Waterworth, and the Traditional Remodel in Odessa, FL
When the owners of a large lakefront home minutes outside of Tampa, Florida, decided to completely remodel their home’s interior, they turned to Annabelle’s Interior Designer, Trudy Waterworth, to create a comprehensive design plan in keeping with their traditional taste. The goal of the remodel was to open up the main rooms of the home to create one large entertaining space. With the kitchen, dining, living and family rooms all open to one another, the challenge was developing an interior design plan that would create distinct vignettes while maintaining flow throughout the space.
As with any successful entertaining space, the stunning new kitchen serves as the heart of this home. The homeowners’ love of traditional design shines through in the elegant mix of rich wood and cream cabinetry featuring intricate molding and sweeping fretwork. This space also sets the tone the home’s soothing color palette of taupe, chocolate brown, cream and blue that is interwoven throughout the spaces.
Directly across from the kitchen, the elegant dining area centers on a custom Old Biscayne dining table in the same finish as the kitchen’s rich wood cabinetry. Side chairs, also from Old Biscayne, are covered in a brown, cream and taupe print fabric that mimics the fretwork in the kitchen’s upper cabinets, tying the spaces together. Tufted, rollback armchairs by Old Biscayne anchor the dining set and add a touch of sophistication.
A half wall with a mesmerizing gas fire feature separates the large living and family areas, allowing for optimal flow throughout the space when entertaining. To the right of the wall, a Vanguard sectional in a durable blue/grey fabric paired with Bernhardt cocktail tables and round cocktail ottoman create a cozy seating area opposite the pool table with coordinating felt top. A pair of Jaunty rugs and an intricate mirror hung vertically help to separate the spaces visually, while a Sarried buffet in a black fox finish offers stylish storage for board games.
Just across the half wall, the family room provides additional seating on a pair of facing camel-colored, extended-length Vanguard sofas that are the perfect scale for the large space. A Lorts custom cocktail ottoman in faux crocodile hide and a pair of swivel recliners like those offered through Leathercraft Furniture, round out the intimate seating area that is anchored by a Jaunty rug. An entertainment stand by Sarried in a neutral finish keeps media equipment at bay beautifully.
Much planning and attention to detail went into transforming this massive open floorplan into a collection of beautifully designed spaces that flow seamlessly and offer a welcoming retreat for family members and guests alike. The newly designed space is exactly what the homeowners envisioned – and then some.
